Evangelicalism has crazy baked in the cake, when you profess to believe that the Bible is the inerrant and infallible Word of God you are constrained to accept as literal truths such crazy notions like millions of animal species fitting into an ark, a donkey talking to a prophet, and the sun standing still for an entire day.

American evangelicals are masters at compartmentalizing, they keep the crazy stuff for Sunday morning, but live in the real world the rest of the week.

Until fairly recently that is, now white evangelicals are doubling down on crazy, and their default mode is crazy not just on Sunday, but every day of the week.

This unfortunate development can be attributed to the fact that they have rejected the kind, rational and peaceful Jesus Christ for their stark raving mad new messiah, Donald Trump.

You want examples of crazy: Evangelical ministers preaching that COVID-19 is a hoax, and fighting against masks and vaccine mandates.  Prophets declaring that Trump won the 2020 election, and calling for a military coup to reinstall their savior. Rank and file evangelicals accepting as Gospel truth crazy QAnon conspiracy theories.

Cult members strive to be like their Dear Leader, and when Donald Trump is your Lord and Master you really have to amp up the craziness.

If America is to survive a secular democracy, we must flush Trump and his crazy followers down the toilet.

White Evangelicals Should Stop Calling Themselves ‘Christians’! Satanists Are More Christ-Like Than They Are

I became an evangelical Christian in the late 1970’s and at that time evangelicalism was synonymous with spreading the Good News that Jesus saves. Being a good evangelical Christian meant attending church on Sunday, and trying to shun worldly attractions the rest of the week. We truly lived by the motto “WWJD”? We would ask ourselves “What would Jesus Do” before deciding what movies to watch, what books to read, what social activities to attend, what radio stations to listen to, and even what clothes to wear. In short, the evangelical experience was all about Jesus.

Now? Not so much. Evangelicals still claim to follow Jesus, but truth be told, they really don’t give a fuck about Jesus anymore. At least not by judging what they spend all their time doing:

Researching conspiracy theories online, attending MAGA rallies that glorify their new Messiah, Donald Trump. Spreading the Big Lie that Trump won the election. Demonizing gays and lesbians, and hating on racial and religious minorities. Disseminating anti-vaccine pseudoscience and spreading the virus by refusing to mask up, social distance and getting vaccinated.

If evangelicals had a shred of integrity, they would stop calling themselves Christians, if you want to associate with people who are really Christ-like I suggest you attend a Church of Satan, an anti-war rally or a pro-choice demonstration.

Outrage: Students Forced to Attend Religious Revival at a Public School

“Students at a West Virginia high school staged a walkout Wednesday morning after some students were reportedly forced to go to a religious revival event at school.

The walkout came after the event, which was organized and led by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, invited Nik Walker Ministries to speak. A district spokesperson said the event was meant to be voluntary, but two teachers “made a mistake and took the entire class to the assembly.”

The spokesperson said the teachers have been ‘corrected,’ and the district doesn’t expect it to happen again.”

Evangelical Christianity has thoroughly corrupted the political process, evangelical Republican congressional leaders are the leading insurrectionists and they pose an existential threat to our democracy.

We must now allow evangelicals to make any inroads into our public schools, and it’s an affront to the sacred principle of separation of church and state that students were forced to attend a religious revival at school.

The religious event was held during a free-time period, how sad that during a free time when students should be relaxing and unwinding, they were instead indoctrinated to a hateful religion.

According to the Associated Press the students were asked to “give their lives over to Jesus to find purpose and salvation.” Those who did not follow the Bible would go to hell when they died, they were told.

The teachers who “made a mistake and took the entire class to the religious revival” and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes should be sued.

I applaud the students who staged a walkout, their courage should embolden us to fight back against evangelicals wherever we encounter them, whether it’s in the educational or political realms.

Pastor Alph Lukau is relatively unknown in the American evangelical community, but the South African pastor and televangelist has millions of followers in Africa and Europe.

Over a million of his followers in Africa and Europe have joined his fast, this may prove his popularity but this publicity stunt has no religious or theological significance.

I would argue that a million souls participating in circle jerks would have a more positive impact on the world. After participating in a circle jerk a person is energized and refreshed and ready to save the world, while after a month-long fast a person is too depleted and weak to do anything more strenuous that lifting a spoon of soup to his mouth.

A 40-day fast is a physically and spiritually dubious endeavor, and it’s the epitome of self-indulgence. South Africa is a cesspool of poverty, crime and disease, a self-aware third-world Christian leader would undertake a 40-day campaign to feed, clothe and shelter the poor instead of a ridiculous and pointless fast.

The Depravity of Evangelicals Has Turned Protestants, Catholics & Adherents of Other Faiths Away from Religion

The hostile takeover of Protestant Christianity in America by the Religious Right is now complete, to the point where the evangelical movement is synonymous with Trump’s GOP.

Evangelicals like Jerry Falwell Sr. and Pat Robertson were John the Baptist, preparing their cult-like followers for the new messiah, Donald Trump. The Reality TV personality embodies and encapsulates the essence of the 21st Christian: a mercenary for Christ determined to remake our democracy as a Christian theocracy, by any means necessary.

Donald Trump lost in an electoral college and popular vote landslide to Joe Biden in a free and fair election, no problem.  Just claim, that the Lord’s anointed was the legitimate winner, and that the Almighty will restore him to his throne, by it by miliary coup, or legal shenanigans.

The depravity of white evangelicals has turned not just Protestants, but Catholics and adherents of other faiths away from religion. The skyrocketing number of Americans dissatisfied with religion is in large part a backlash against the Religious Right.

I feel at home with atheists, agnostics and even members of the Church of Satan more than I do with the evangelicals I used to bread with a long time ago.

Congratulations white evangelicals, you have driven a nail into Christianity.

Is There Anyone More Evil Than White Evangelicals?

White evangelicals have switched their allegiance from the kind and gentle Jesus of the Gospels to the vicious and vengeful Donald Trump of the tabloids and reality TV.

Followers tend to adopt the verbiage and behavior of their guru, and it’s no surprise evangelicals are as profane in their language and behavior as their orange messiah.

Evangelicals are for Trumpism, but they are better known for what they are against:

Gays, lesbians and trans men and women.

Believers who question the inerrancy of the Bible, and the relevancy of some of its centuries-old dogma for the present age.

Women who seek equality in the church and in the home.

Immigrants.

Climate Change.

Science.

People of color.

Televangelist Michael Todd Illustrates How Disgusting Evangelical Christianity is by Rubbing His Spit on Man’s Face

Televangelist Michael Todd illustrated just how disgusting his religion is by wiping globs of his spit on the face of his brother during his Sunday sermon.

Todd even grossed himself out, he apologized for his publicity stunt saying:

“It’s never my intention to distract others from God’s Word and the message of Jesus … even with illustrations! I apologize for my example being too extreme and disgusting!”

I watched it back, and it was disgusting. Like, that was gross. I want to validate everybody’s feelings. That was a distraction from what I was really trying to do — trying to make the word come alive and make people see the story.”

Believing that a woman’s gender disqualifies her from being a pastor is disgusting.

Spreading COVID by refused to mask up and getting vaccinated is disgusting.

Demonizing gays and lesbians is disgusting.

Supporting the racist, homophobic, misogynist, spiteful, petty and vengeful Donald Trump is disgusting.

Failure to take action against pedophile clergy is disgusting.

Spreading QAnon conspiracy theories is disgusting.

Evangelicals Don’t Get It: Having More Than Two Children is a Sin

“A majority of Americans in a new survey reject the idea that society is better off if marriage and procreation are prioritized. However, white evangelicals – who often hold more traditional views on the issue – think just the opposite.

The Pew Research Center survey found that only 34 percent of U.S. adults believe society is better off if ‘people make marriage and having children a priority,” while 64 percent believe society is ‘just as well off if people have priorities other than marriage and children.’

Yet among white evangelicals, 56 percent say society is better off with marriage and procreation being prioritized, while 41 percent say other priorities are fine.”

When Jehovah commanded Adam & Eve to “be fruitful and multiply”, it made perfect theological and evolutionary sense, if human beings were to survive as a species, an exponential growth spurt from day one was a biological necessity.

The first couple living in a pristine world could afford to procreate like rabbits without feeling a tinge of guilt, but today people living in an overpopulated and polluted world should think twice before bringing another child into this godforsaken world.

Americans get it, a life focused on getting married and having children is no longer a moral imperative. The opposite is true, a moral couple will take their financial situation and a surging world population into account, before having one or at the most two children.  

Evangelicals on the other hand are living in an alternate reality, where a woman’s greatest achievement is bearing children, and birthing a lot of little polluting monsters is somehow a good thing.

Once again, evangelicals are on the wrong side of history. Evolution doesn’t always get everything right, or else evangelicals would embrace birth control, be in favor of a woman’s right to choose, and stop having so many damn children

Why are White Evangelicals So Angry?

What emotion best describes white evangelicals?

Is it not seething anger? It doesn’t take any effort to picture a white evangelical shouting: Get off my lawn! Get out of my country! Stay out of my neighborhood! Don’t you dare enter my church!

Evangelicals used to place a high premium on repentance; they sought to repent of sins that angered their God, in the hopes it would bring them in harmony with their community.

Why are 21st century evangelicals so angry? It all stems from the fact that they have exchanged their compassionate and merciful messiah Jesus Christ for the sociopathic and vengeful Donald Trump.

Make no mistake about it, Trumpism has thoroughly corrupted the evangelical movement, in 2016 and in 2020 about 85 percent of evangelicals voted for their orange savior.

Evangelicals don’t measure the sincerity of their faith by how much they model the behavior of the kind and gentle Jesus Christ, but how they much they channel the vindictiveness, resentment and obnoxiousness of Trump.

Evangelicals judge the authenticity of your faith not by how closely you adhere to traditional Christian orthodoxy like the virgin birth and resurrection of Jesus Christ but by how loyal you are to the MAGA-controlled GOP.

Anger has corrupted the evangelical movement and destroyed the the Republican Party. It’s imperative that true Christians denounce the evangelical movement and that genuine Republicans cut out the cancer of Trumpism.

Evangelicals Love Their Long-winded Pastors

“Fewer than 10% of evangelical Protestants want to have shorter sermons during worship, while nearly a third want more in-depth teaching, according to recently released survey data.

According to the report, a copy of which was emailed to The Christian Post on Monday, only 7% of respondents want sermons to be shorter, while 85% believe the sermon lengths are acceptable as they are. About 8% percent said they wanted sermons to be longer.”

Sermons by evangelical ministers are devoid of empirical evidence, established science and common sense. You’d think their homilies would be short and sweet considering they appeal to the blind faith of their parishioners and they don’t engage in logical reasoning or a recitation of facts.

It shouldn’t take long for a bible-thumping preacher to bellow: The Bible says it, I believe it, and that settles it! Ya’ll go out there and convert the queers, commie liberals and feminazis to our Lord and Savior, Donald Trump!

But as anyone who has attended an evangelical service knows, pulpiters have a penchant for getting caught up in the Spirit, and they babble incoherently, seemingly endlessly.

When you are a cult member, and most evangelical congregations exhibit cult-like tendencies, you need constant reassurance. You need more than a ten-minute sermonette to cement your belief in your church’s myths, fables and conspiracy theories.

Hearing a televangelist screech for a minute is all the bullshit I can tolerate; thank God my mind and my spirit aren’t exposed to such toxic rhetoric.

There is No Place for White Evangelicals in Our Secular Postmodern Democracy

New Year’s Eve is a time for reflection and contemplation, a time to look back on all the horrendous events that took place this year, and a time to look forward to what steps we can take to make the new year better.

This isn’t my annual New Year’s Resolutions essay, the state of our democracy is in such dire straits that we must not focus on improving our lives, but on saving our republic.

I’m persuaded that with increasing vaccination rates, and due diligence with mitigation efforts we will eventually defeat the coronavirus.

But there’s a virus that’s more virulent, contagious and poses an even more existential threat to our country than the omicron variant.

White evangelical Christianity is a cancer that has metastasized and put democracy on its deathbed. Evangelicals have traded a compassionate and loving Jesus who preached about the Kingdom of Heaven for an inhumane and vicious orange messiah who’s trying to establish a white Christian nationalist theocracy.

Today’s white evangelical Christians put the Crusaders of old to shame, they hate Muslims and other religious and racial minorities with a passion and they are determined to reinstate their Savior by any means necessary: military coup, intimidation of election officials, undermining of the courts …

We must fight evangelicals with the same vigor and determination that we have exercised in our war with the virus. I’m not advocating for the literal extermination of white evangelicals, although the world would be better off without them. We must fight their racism, ignorance, anti-science stance, intolerance and anti-Christian philosophy with by exposing them with the truth. There is no place for evangelicals in our postmodern secular society.

Texas Educator Calls Evangelicals ‘Kooks’ Who Hate Reading

Some parents in Austin, Texas have their panties in a twist over books they claim contain pornographic content in their schools.

In truth, these religious bigots consider any book that affirms the dignity of the LGBTQ community pornographic. If they were really serious about blocking access to pornography, they would take the time to learn how to set parental controls on their children’s phones and other electronic devices. Although, truth be told, that’s a losing battle, children’s curiosity will always win out over their parents’ feeble attempts to restrict pornographic content.

In response, a teacher, Krista Tyler, mocked them as anti-reading bigots at a school board meeting by reading a Dr. Seuss-style poem:

“Everyone in Leander liked reading a lot, but some evangelicals in Leander did not. These kooks hated reading, the whole reading season. Please don’t ask why, no one quite knows the reason.  It could be perhaps critical thinking causes fright.  It could be their heads aren’t screwed on just right. But whatever the reason, their brains or their fright, they can’t follow policy in plain black and white.”

It’s patently true that evangelicals hate reading, especially books that depicts a reality that exposes the unscientific basis of many of their cherished myths and fables.

By the way, they also hate reading the Bible, the average evangelical is unaware that it endorses slavery and genocide.

In their churches evangelicals can ban any reading material they don’t fancy, and exalt the Bible few of them have read from cover to cover. But in public schools children should be exposed to science and history textbooks and great books of literature that may be anathema to their parents.

In America evangelicals are the biggest consumers of online pornography, they enjoy every genre of porn including girl-on-girl porn, bondage, gang rape and dozens of other sexual practices condemned by the Bible.  

Dos Anjos’ sex light online store doesn’t sell dildos, anal sex toys or sex dolls. “I don’t want clients to feel like they’re doing something wrong,” she says.

That’s not a good business model, evangelicals visit brothels, consume porn, and pick up hookers precisely because it’s a sin. Unbelievers will never experience the transcendent ecstasy achieved by indulging in sex acts you believe are morally wrong and condemned by the Bible.

Lubricants in flavors such as cotton candy and aphrodisiac perfumes are well and good, but if Dos Anjos really wants to make a killing she will sell vulgar sex merchandise like a giant dildo shaped like the mushroom shaped penis of our “orange Messiah, Donald Trump.”

But her online sex store is a good thing, anything that teaches evangelicals that sex is a fundamentally pure, natural and spiritual is a step in the right direction.

Donald Trump and White Evangelicals Were Made for Each Other

The disgraced twice-impeached Donald Trump is precisely the commander-in-chief white evangelicals lusted after, and he is exactly the Messiah they deserve.

Evangelicalism and Trumpism are fueled by anger, resentment and fear of changing demographics, empirical science and loss of white privilege.

Evangelicals don’t care about what’s right or wrong in the sight of their God, it’s all about halting their losing streak, and winning at any costs under the leadership of Trump.

They dream of a theocracy led by their orange Messiah where the only acceptable greeting during the holiday season is “Merry Christmas”, where fans who don’t stand for the National Anthem will be arrested, and where prayers in the name of Jesus will be restored at public schools.

Evangelicals don’t care about “winning souls for Christ”, but owning the libs and gaslighting them.

By their words and actions, they have rejected the loving and compassionate Jesus Christ and made common cause with the hateful and vengeful Donald Trump.

If their scripture is true, hell awaits Donald Trump and his white evangelical enablers and supporters.

Anti-Vaxxer Evangelical TV Mogul Marcus Lamb Dies of Covid-19

“Marcus Lamb, the evangelical founder of a prosperity gospel television network died of Covid-19 on Tuesday after he and his network advocated against the Covid vaccine. He was 64. His son announced his father’s death on Twitter.”

I don’t celebrate the death of Lamb, a televangelist huckster, enabler of Trump and spreader of false conspiracy theories, but I do rejoice that the voice of this prominent anti-vaxxer has been silenced.

As the founder and CEO of Daystar Television Network, the worlds’ second-largest Christian television network, Lamb had a huge platform to spread his pernicious falsehoods about the coronavirus.

God only knows how many people needlessly died after following his advice to eschew vaccinations and to forego wearing masks.

His son Jonathan had this on the death of his father:

“My father was promoted to heaven at 4 a.m. this morning. His life was truly well-lived and there’s no doubt that he heard ‘well done my good and faithful servant’ when he entered heaven’s gates.”

Bullshit! We can debate whether or not there’s a heaven, but I think most of us can agree there’s no place in heaven for grifters, liars, and con artists.

White Evangelicals are as Execrable as Their Orange Messiah, Donald Trump

Anything a Christian places before God, whether it’s something material, a philosophy or a human being is an idol.

Admiring a human being isn’t a sin, there are many individuals worthy of admiration: who doesn’t admire the intelligence of Albert Einstein, the, the physical prowess of Lebron James, the courage of Martin Luther King Jr., and the integrity and eloquence of Abraham Lincoln?

But the most admirable human being in the world falls far short of the perfection of God, and a believer must never ascribe the qualities of deity to any man or woman.

White evangelicals are guilty of the sin of idolatry, they have elevated the physically and morally repulsive Donald Trump to the level of a deity. Evangelist Franklin Graham compared House Republicans who voted for Trump’s impeachment to Jesus’ betrayer, Judas Iscariot. Pastor John MacArthur proclaimed that true believers had to vote for him. Donald Trump, not Jesus Christ, is the Messiah that evangelicals worship.

They accept every utterance that emanates from Trump’s sphincter-shaped mouth as the Gospel, and they take umbrage at anyone who ridicules or criticizes his vain babbling.

You will become like the person you worship. White evangelicals have become as racist, misogynist, homophobic, vindictive, xenophobic and just plain evil as their Orange Messiah.

History will judge Donald Trump and his evangelical followers as one of the greatest threats ever posed to our secular democracy.

Most White Evangelicals Wish America Was a Christian Centric Nation

“The researchers at the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) just released their 2021 American Values Survey. There’s a lot of information in the full report, but one chart in particular deserves a closer look.

The question basically asked people if they would rather live in a pluralistic nation… or a predominantly Christian one. And only 13% of white evangelicals longed for a pluralistic country. 57% of them wanted to live in a mostly Christian bubble.”

Christian nationalism is the belief in the notion that America was founding on Biblical principles and that the federal government should take active steps to preserve its Christian character.  

Many white evangelicals are Christian nationalists and they want to transform the Republican Party into a Religious Party and convert our democracy into a theocracy.

The strength of America is our religious, cultural, and ethnic diversity, but the pluralistic nature of our democracy is anathema to evangelicals. They live in a mostly Christian bubble: they stream PureFlex instead of Netflix, get their news from Fox News and Newsmax instead of ABC News and CNN, and denounce science and facts and extol religious myths and fanciful conspiracy theories.

Their main dogma is the belief that Donald Trump is the Messiah the Almighty has anointed to establish a theocracy. One man’s utopia is another man’s dystopia, and I am determined to expose the racism, misogyny, homophobia and extremism of the American evangelical movement.

I will burst their Christian bubble and ensure that their vision of Cristian nationalism will never become a reality.

Trump is the Messiah Evangelicals Deserve

Evangelicals emphasize the born again experience as fundamentally necessary to be a member in good standing of their community. If you don’t claim Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior you will never become a member of their tribe.

It’s a common practice in church services and youth groups for new converts to share their testimony of how they came to Jesus. New believers tend to embellish their sinful past, because the more dramatic their testimony the more warmly they will be welcomed to the fold. Evangelicals love to hear a testimony of how a person who was in the depths of depravity found forgiveness and grace in Jesus Christ.

It’s de rigueur for an evangelist holding a revival crusade to share his testimony, usually on the last day. Nothing short of a Paul’s epiphany on the road to Damascus or a Prodigal Son experience will satisfy the congregation.

If the thrice married, serial philander, pathological liar, and braggadocios former casino owner Donald Trump repented of his sins, and accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior it’s understandable if he was embraced by evangelicals

Trump hasn’t repented of his sins, every day he finds new and innovative ways of breaking The Ten Commandments. He’s never claimed to be a born-again Christian and he only attends church on Easter and Christmas. The short-fingered vulgarian said he’s never sought forgiveness for his sins; I can’t imagine him prostrating himself before the Almighty.

Nevertheless, not only has Trump been enthusiastically received by evangelicals, but he’s been treated as the Anointed One who will Make America Great Again.

This paradox illustrates the truth that evangelicals care more about their political objectives than they do about their mission to evangelize the world. Trump’s adherence to Republican orthodoxy (pro-life, anti-immigrant, strong military, anti-gay) covers his myriad sins.

After 5 Decades Pat Robertson Retires as Host of The 700 Club! Good Riddance!

“Pat Robertson, famed televangelist and founder of the Christian Broadcasting Network, has stepped down as host of the long-running Christian talk show ‘The 700 Club.’

The 91-year-old announced his departure during Friday’s edition of the series, telling audiences that the episode would be his last and that his son and current CEO of the network, Gordon, will take over as host.”

The 700 Club which airs on weekdays spews enough racism, misogyny, and homophobia to keep trigger-happy evangelicals primed to fight godless liberals, socialist Democrats and limp-wristed homosexuals.

The abominable program, initially named for its goal of recruiting 700 members whose pledges would keep the founding station afloat financially has metastasized into a worldwide ministry reaching millions with its toxic message.

For over fifty years the 700 Club afforded Pat Robertson a platform to poison Christianity and the culture at large. The 91-year-old televangelist doesn’t have enough time left to begin to undo the indelible damage he has done to the evangelical brand, the Republican Party, and to the millions of religious of Muslims, gays and lesbians, and immigrants that he has demonized and marginalized.

In his prime Robertson was right out of central casting: handsome, vibrant and articulate, but now the nonagenarian looks as physically revolting as his evil spirit.

In the 70’s Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell aligned their evangelical movement with the Republican Party, and in 1988 Robertson ran for president as a Republican. He made a respectable showing, but he didn’t win and he set the stage for Donald Trump.

The evil that men do lives after them, and hopefully it won’t be 50 years before we manage to destroy Trumpism and the evangelical movement.

More White Christians Adopted Than Shed Evangelical Label During Trump Presidency

“According to analysis released Wednesday, more Americans started identifying as born-again or evangelical Protestants between 2016 and 2020 than stopped calling themselves evangelicals. The boost came almost entirely from white Trump supporters.

Among those who didn’t consider themselves evangelicals when the former president was elected, nearly 1 in 6 had begun identifying as evangelicals by 2020. Just 1 percent of white Americans who did not favor Trump made the same switch.”

White evangelicals supported Donald Trump in overwhelming numbers is 2016, and after four years of his regime’s racism, misogyny, homophobia, authoritarian tendencies and amorality they again enthusiastically supported him in 2020, instead of deserting him in shock at his betrayal of Christian ideals.

Proving that evangelicals main imperative isn’t to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ, but to set up a Christian theocracy that codifies their anti-immigrant, anti-Muslim, anti-choice Neanderthal ideology.

White evangelicals promiscuous embrace of Trump and Trumpism has forever stained the evangelical brand in the minds of democracy-loving Americans, religious and non-religious alike.

But the label hasn’t lost its allure to white evangelicals, in fact, they are prouder than ever to identify as evangelicals, they’re cognizant that the evangelical brand signals to the world that they are Trump-supporting, anti-science conspiracy theorists who are seeking to abolish democracy and establish a Christian theocracy.

Evangelicals are as much a threat to democracy and true Christianity as Nazis, and it’s incumbent upon us to fight them with the same vigor that we do white supremacists.

Evangelicals Are Proselytizers Seeking Converts to Their Neanderthal Religion

An evangelical is a Christian who evangelizes, or preaches the Good News that Jesus saves. An evangelical is a proselytizer, or a true believer who seeks to induce everyone to convert to his faith.

Trump-supporting, anti-science, anti-immigrant and homophobic Christian evangelicals have made the word “evangelicals” a pejorative. Perhaps we should call them proselytizers, a word with an even worse connotation.

Evangelical charity springs from an evil motivation, it usually comes with strings attached:

If you are homeless, we will provide you with a bowl of soup and a bed for the night, but first you must listen to a Gospel sermon.

If you can’t feed your family, we will give you access to our food pantry, but first you must read a Gospel tract.

I’ve met multitudes of evangelicals who feel sorry for the poor, sick and hungry, but very few who empathize with them.

The unconverted aren’t nameless, soulless sinners in need of salvation, they are fellow human beings trying to make sense of a senseless world.

Evangelicals make friends with “sinners” not because they understand the value of befriending someone with a different worldview, but because they seek to convert them.

I wonder just how many converts they’re making these days, when their racism, bigotry, homophobia, misogyny and support for the amoral Donald Trump is contradicting their message of the love of Jesus Christ.

Whether you call them evangelicals, proselytizers or Neanderthals, all I know is that they are the enemies of true Christianity.

Russia Declares 4 Evangelical Groups ‘Undesirable’, Why Can’t America Declare All Evangelical Groups Undesirable?

“Russia’s justice ministry has put four Evangelical organizations from Latvia and Ukraine on its list of undesirable non-government organizations.The ministry’s list of undesirable non-government organizations contains 46 organizations.The activities of the four organizations were deemed undesirable by the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office on August 23 as threatening Russia’s constitutional order and security.

I lament the lack of religious freedom in Russia, and I cherish the freedom to worship that’s enshrined in our Constitution, but a small part of me wishes most of the evangelical organizations in America were declared undesirable non-government agencies.

The Russian government contends that the New Generation International Christian Movement, the New Generation Evangelical Christian Church, the New Generation Spiritual Directorate of the Evangelist Christians, and the New Generation International Biblical College pose a threat to Russia’s constitutional order and security.

The Russian government’s designation of “an undesirable non-government agency” means that these evangelical entities must close up their existing offices or face criminal penalties.My guess is that the only threat these evangelical organizations pose is to Putin’s totalitarian rule, but America’s evangelical organizations pose an existential threat to our constitutional order and security.

Most white evangelical churches pose a serious threat to the safety and security of Americans, because they refuse to mask up, socially distance and get vaccinated. They pose a real threat to our environmental health by denying the science of climate change. They pose an existential threat to our democracy by supporting the authoritarian Donald Trump and by advocating that he be restored to power by a military coup or an insurrection.

I don’t think the leaders of evangelical ministries should be imprisoned or face criminal penalties, but their tax-exempt status should be lifted and they should be treated like the enemies of true Christianity and democracy.

95% of Evangelical Leaders are Vaccinated, But Most Refuse to Encourage Their Followers to Get Vaccinated

According to a new survey from the National Association of Evangelicals almost all white evangelical leaders are vaccinated or plan to be vaccinated against COVID-19, and many of these evangelical ministers preside over churches where the congregants are anti-vaxxers.

These fearless men of God are too afraid to encourage their followers to get vaccinated, and they allow false conspiracy theories denying the efficacy of the vaccine to fester in their churches.

Most of these evangelical mega churches are in the Bible Belt where virus rates are surging, and where ignorant Bible thumpers need to hear the Good News that vaccines work.  

This manifest hypocrisy of white evangelicals leaders regarding COVID vaccines makes me wonder in what other aspects of their faith they are hypocrites.

I wonder how many evangelical ministers who rail against sodomy from the pulpit are engaging in homosexual acts in motels. I wonder how many televangelists who preach against porn from their pulpits are watching Pornhub.com in their laptops? I wonder how many pastors who thunder from the pulpit that the Bible is the inspired and infallible Word of God, are secretly amazed how their followers can rely on Scripture as the ultimate moral authority when it endorses slavery and genocide?

I wonder at the extent of hypocrisy in the evangelical movement, is it so pervasive that it makes their faith meaningless?

Anti-LGBTQ Bigotry in Evangelical Churches Driving Away Young Christians

According to the Public Religion Research Institute the number of Americans who identify as white evangelicals has declined dramatically, from 23% in 2006 to 14.5% in 2020.

Younger evangelicals in particular are leaving the faith of their fathers, because they just can’t abide their antiquated attitude toward the LGBTQ community.

There’s a dichotomy between evangelical ministers who rail against “sodomites” from the pulpit, and the millennials in their congregations who accept gays and lesbians as equal members of society and as children of God.

The Jehovah of the Old Testament may have considered gays and lesbians worthy of death, but the Jesus of the Gospels never even mentioned homosexuality. Younger evangelicals are more likely to adopt the laissez-faire of Jesus toward gays and other social outcasts than the judgmental attitude of Jehovah.

Truth be told, the Bible condemns homosexuality but it also condones slavery and genocide. Christians should exercise discernment and wisdom in how they view the Bible, it’s inspired text meant to be interpreted judiciously not a universal penal code meant to be adhered to slavishly.

To Preserve Democracy We Must Defeat the GOP and White Evangelicals

The priorities of white evangelicals are ending abortion, opposing vaccines, protecting 2nd amendment rights, limiting the reach and authority of the federal government, restricting immigration, denying climate change, crusading against critical race theory and demonizing the LGBTQ community.

The aforementioned priorities of white evangelicals are the same as the policy preferences and principles of the Republican Party, so it’s not surprising that over 80 percent of Republicans voted to reelect Donald Trump.

The subjects that evangelicals are enthralled with have nothing to do with answering the existential questions that religion is supposed to answer: what is the meaning of life, how can I be a moral person, how can I best serve my community, what does God expect of us …

When the mission statements of a political party and a religious movement are almost identical there is something rotten in Denmark.

A religion is supposed to think in terms of the eternal, whereas politics is concerned with the current news cycle. A spiritual person expects the rewards of fealty to his faith to be peace of mind, love for his fellow man and a sense of unity with the divine. A politician expects the rewards of loyalty to his party to be temporal power and influence.

White evangelicals and Republicans have the same objectives: the subjugation of religious, racial and political minorities, and by any means necessary keeping the white power structure intact.

Striving to form a more perfect union means being cognizant of the existential threats to democracy: authoritarian political parties and intolerant religious groups that seek to impose their religious views on citizens.

White evangelicals and the Trumpian Republican Party are anathema to democracy.
