Trump Inspires MAGA Revivals of Greed and Hate

“The Museum of the Bible based in Washington, D.C., recently sponsored an event organizer Joshua Feuerstein described as ‘an opportunity for Christian pastors to come to a revival at Mar-a-Lago,’ Trump’s Florida resort.

The cheapest tickets for the event (held not at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort but 80 miles away at Trump National Doral) were $500, with ‘a special discounted offer exclusively for pastors.’ The $7,000, $3,500 and $1,750 VIP tickets sold out.”

Religious revivals in American history originated in poor and rural communities. The Spirit of the Lord moved not in magnificent cathedrals but in revival meetings held in tents with dirt floors.

In the old-timey revival meetings, worshippers sought a closer walk with God manifest by speaking in tongues, rolling down the dirt floors (hence the term holy rollers) and exuberant praise and worship.

The revivals of the MAGA era originate in arena size mega churches where the unholy spirit of mammon moves the cultists to fund Trump’s crusade to turn our democracy into a White Nationalist Christian theocracy.

The speakers at the Museum of the Bible revival event included conspiracy theorist and disgraced former Trump National Security Advisor Michael Flynn and actor, comedian, conspiracy theorist and alleged serial rapist Russell Brand. With speakers like that I expect a revival of corruption, misinformation, and misogyny to break out.

With VIP (Very Insecure Pricks?) tickets sold for as high as $7,000, this was not a revival event for the poor that that attended the revivals of our past. I wonder, was the climax of this event a circle jerk where Brooks Brothers clad assholes splattered a golden statue of Donald Trump with their jizz?

Fascist Michael Flynn Wants to Establish a Christian Theocracy

At a far-right rally Michael Flynn uttered the following words which should terrify anyone who treasures our democracy:

“If we are going to have one nation under God which we must, we have to have one religion. One nation under God & one religion under God”

Flynn is the former national security advisor in the Trump administration who was pardoned early this year by the former president after pleading guilty to lying to the FBI.

I vehemently disagree with Flynn’s fascist declaration. No nation, least of all a democracy, should be under the thumb of any deity. It’s not the Bible, but the Constitution that unites our pluralistic society. Organized religion seeks only to destroy every secular institution and power structure that doesn’t bow down before their myths and superstitions.

Flynn and his ilk despise our democracy, and they seek to establish a theocracy for a white Christian minority. Imagine if a Muslim politician said:

We must have one nation under God, and we must have one religion. And that God is Allah and that religion is Islam.

Evangelicals would have their panties in a twist, and they demand that politician to be removed from office.

We must have one nation under the Constitution where every individual is free to worship his God, or no God.
