A ghostwriter spends a lot of time with the person who hired him to write his book, and usually he develops a bond with him. The prominent person must open up, emotionally and intellectually, to the writer he hired to write his memoirs and that creates an affinity between the two individuals.
But a sociopath like Trump has no empathy for anyone, and he regards a ghostwriter not as a human being but simply as an instrument, a tape recorder with spellcheck and grammar check, to preserve his thoughts for posterity. A friendship, or even an acquaintanceship, wasn’t kindled when Schwartz served as a ghostwriter for Trump.
Schwartz survived his experience working for Trump with the conviction that he is the most purely evil human being he has ever met. I’m sure most, if not all, of the members of Trump’s administration who have resigned or been fired would agree with him.
When a president is evil to the core, and insecure, you have the makings of a Hitler or a Stalin.
