CNN ‘Town Hall’: a Shit Show of Biblical Proportions

The CNN “town hall” was an unmitigated disaster, a shit show of biblical proportions, a desecration of journalism, an off-the-rails MAGA rally, a betrayal of CNN’s audience, a Lollapalooza of lies, a desperate publicity stunt for ratings and the death knell for the formerly most trusted name in news.

The sorry spectacle had evangelicals shouting “Amen”, Nazis screaming “Hail Hitler, rednecks as happy as pigs eating slop and the demons in hell squealing in delight.

But I’ll pull a pearl out of Trump’s incontinent rectum, and admit that one good thing was accomplished: the televised abomination proved once and for all that Donald Trump hasn’t changed one iota for the better. He’s still the steaming pile of human shit that he’s always been. There is no Trump 2.0, he’s still an asshole.

The town hall from the pit of hell was vintage Trump: he called the moderator a “nasty person” for doing her due diligence as a journalist and asking follow-up questions to controversial subjects, he made disparaging remarks about E. Jean Carroll just a day after he was found liable in a civil case for sexually assaulting her, and he defended the Big Lie.

The CNN town hall was the unpardonable sin, liberals will never forgive the cable news giant. CNN is anathema to me.

Trump turns everything he touches to shit, and he has managed to destroy CNN.

The Evangelical Movement is a Shit Show of Biblical Proportions

In an MSNBC segment discussing the evangelical movement Peter Wehner, who served in various roles in the three Republican administrations before the Trump administration, described the effect of wild conspiracy theories as turning evangelical Christianity into a “moral freak show.”

In the relative halcyon days of American evangelicalism at a church service the polyester-clad pastor would deliver a fire and brimstone sermon, and the congregation would beatifically smile in the smug awareness that an angry God would spare them from the eternal torment reserved for the heathen. Evangelicals would leave church hating the sin but condescendingly loving the sinner.

Decades ago, evangelical ministers railed against generic sinners, but now they spew their hatred against specific classes of sinners: gays and lesbians, transgender people, feminists, Democrats, evolutionists, scientists, immigrants, university professors …

Evangelicals have always believed in the miracles of the Bible including the parting of the Red Sea, Jesus walking on water, and the worldwide flood, but now they also believe in crazy conspiracy theories that have no biblical basis.

In recent decades white evangelicals have for the most part aligned with the Republican party, but now they consider being a Republican an article of faith and they demonize Democrats.

Peter Wehner is being generous in his description of evangelical Christianity, it’s a shit show of biblical proportions. How else can you describe a religious movement that elevates an amoral, egotistical con artist billionaire to the stature of a messiah figure. Attending a church service where the minister preaches that the COVID vaccine is the Mark of the Beast, and that the election was stolen from Donald Trump but that the Almighty will reinstate him in a few weeks is akin to attending a religious sideshow carnival.

The evangelical movement is a dung pile whose stench reaches to the heavens, believe me I’m giving these wretched people a wide berth.

Trump’s Daily Coronavirus Briefings Serve Only to Heighten Our Despair and Anxiety

In his daily coronavirus briefings, Donald Trump lumbers to the podium like a whale beaching itself. A dying whale’s stench may permeate a couple of miles, but Trump’s odorous rhetoric repels a nation hungry for a few words of concern, compassion and care from their commander-in-chief.

Even Trump’s critics tune into his daily briefings in hopes of learning how they can cope with the pandemic that has turned their lives upside down, but his briefings quickly degenerate into the ranting and ravings of a sick man who has a virus more virulent than COVID-19.

Trump’s sickness has shriveled his heart and withered his soul and he is incapable of offering words of healing and hope to a devastated nation. Instead of seeing a country of 330 million souls living in fear of the deadly virus, he sees only himself and he drones on and on how the press fails to praise him for his excellent job handling the crisis.

Trump’s paranoia, spiritual poverty, vanity and narcissism serves only to heighten our anxiety. Trump would be well-advised to let Mike Pence and the team of physicians and scientists take control of the daily briefings, but he is too self-centered and arrogant to yield his daily moment in the spotlight. So, on top of the affliction the virus has wreaked on our nation, we must endure Trump’s daily shit show.

God have mercy on our nation.
