The Female Nude a Threat to the Patriarchy

“It never made sense why we can celebrate the body in art, but fear it in cinema.”

Demi Moore

Famous works of art throughout history in different countries and cultures celebrate the nude body. Only the pathologically prude or the sanctimoniously spiritual object to paintings or sculptures that depict nude subjects. The rest of us can look at “Birth of Venus” by Sandro Botticelli or “Lady Godiva” by John Maler Collier with artistic admiration and not prurient interest.

It is ironic that in the digital age when the most extreme expressions of hardcore porn are easily accessible on our phones, laptops and tablets, that there are still people who fear nudity in cinema, the Broadway stage and in books.

Religious fundamentalists may appreciate “Mother and Child” By Gustav Klimt in a museum but wax apoplectic if a woman is depicted breastfeeding in a movie, or horror of horrors, if she is breastfeeding in public.

Religious fundamentalists, whether they are Islamists or evangelicals, feel a religious zeal to cover up the female body regardless if it’s a work of art or a real woman with the temerity to express her freedom and autonomy in the way she dresses.

Women who “dress scantily” are sometimes raped not because they pose too much of a temptation to mean with a weak will, but because they post a threat to the patriarchal order to men with weak minds.

The female nude in popular culture shouldn’t be feared, despised or banned, but admired and celebrated.

Ment Nelson’s Painting Perfectly Captures Kanye West’s Uncle Tom Spirit

Uncle Tom

“Ment Nelson watched the scene unfold in a YouTube clip on his phone – a rapper professing his love for the president in the Oval Office – and wanted to document the moment from the October meeting forever.

In his bedroom, Nelson began to draw and then paint and soon the Beaufort native and artist had produced a watercolor showing a grinning Kanye West with a red cap bearing the “Make America Great Again” slogan of Donald Trump`s presidential campaign. Opposite West, lipstick is seen on the cheek of a frowning Trump.”

The Island Packet

Jim Carrey isn`t the only artist expressing his loathing of Trump via his art, Ment Nelson has produced a watercolor depicting Kanye West with an Uncle Tom Grin and a frowning Donald Trump with a lipstick kiss on his orange cheek.

I`m not an artist and I can barely draw a human stick figure, but I recognize great art when I see it, and Nelson`s watercolor painting is a masterpiece.

How the mighty have fallen, Kanye West is a rapper, producer, fashion designer and entrepreneur, and he was a role model for blacks and all people of color.

Rappers are a symbol and expression of African American vitality; they are the rock stars of our generation, as they prowl the stage, rapping truth to power. Rappers ooze masculinity and confidence, as they demonstrate you don`t have to be subservient to the white power structure. For one of the kings of rap to turn into a Trump-kissing Uncle Tom house Negro is a shame and an affront to the black community.

West`s Uncle Tom grin perfectly captures his servile and submissive nature in the presence of white authority, and Trump`s frown perfectly captures his disgust at being embraced by a black man.

Trump doesn`t mind a black man shucking and jiving, but the hug crossed a red line. Trump doesn`t mind West`s support, he falsely believes it will improve his standing in the black community, but he`s still a Negro, and a Negro should never make the mistake of embracing his superior.

Kanye West is an affront to the black community in particular, and to humanity in general. Kudos to Nelson for reminding us that West is trash.

Marilyn Monroe Statue Near Stamford Church Draws Ire

“A 26-foot tall statue Marilyn Monroe statue recently installed in a Stamford, Conn. park is scandalizing locals – because the movie starlet`s derriere is pointed straight at a neighboring house of worship.

Artist Seward Johnson`s `Forever Marilyn` captures the moment from `The Seven Year Itch` where the actress holds down her white dress as air blows up from a subway grate.

In the film, only co-star Tom Ewell sees what`s under Monroe`s skirt, but in Johnson`s colossal interpretation her underwear-clad caboose is on full display to all viewers – especially to those visiting the nearby First Congregational Church.”

The New York Post

Some members of the First Congregational Church have their panties in a twist over the controversial statue, but they really need to exercise their God-given sense of humor.

Some members go as far as to suggest that the Marilyn Monroe statue was deliberately and strategically installed so that her rear end would point at their precious house of worship. Nonsense, it wasn`t the devil behind a scheme to moon a church, it was God Almighty encouraging the congregants to put down their Bibles for a moment and appreciate a divinely inspired work of art.

Marilyn Monroe`s iconic pose is as quintessentially American as a church steeple, and everybody in Stamford, believers and nonbelievers, should be grateful that this masterpiece graces their city.
