Donald Trump held a MAGA rally in Greensburg, Pa, ostensibly in support of Dr. Mehmet Oz’s senatorial campaign, but in reality, it was just another excuse to keep himself relevant and in the spotlight.
Trump, a former reality TV star, introduced Dr. Oz to the crowd with these words:
“I’ve known him a long time. He’s on that screen. He’s in the bedrooms of all those women, telling them good and bad. And they love him.”
Trump is a pathological liar, but at the same time he’s very transparent, he readily admitted that the reason he supports Dr. Oz is because he’s a TV star. In Trump’s world celebrity trumps ideology, morality, experience, wisdom and everything else.
Trump may be enthralled with Oz because of his celebrity, but his conservative crowd wasn’t quite as enthralled with the famous quack, in fact, they almost booed him off the stage.
The MAGA crowd is well aware that Oz previously supported gun control and abortion rights, and that it was only pollical expediency that led him to change his mind of these issues critical to them.
If Oz wins Pennsylvania’s GOP primary on May 17, it will be a sign of Trump’s stranglehold on the Republican Party. The fact that they would vote for a candidate they aren’t impressed with just to remain loyal to their Orange Messiah would speak volumes.
