“I think people think evangelicals have been duped by President Trump. Evangelicals are not morons. They understand that he might not pray six hours a day or be able to quote the Bible backward and forward but they do believe he’s a man who loves our country and he’s embraced policies that are in keeping with the truth of God’s word and that’s why they selected him.”
Televangelist Robert Jeffress
Robert Jeffress is correct in stating that evangelicals haven’t been duped by former President Donald Trump, but that isn’t proof that evangelicals are not morons.
They are morons, science-denying, Kool-Aid swallowing, conspiracy believing morons.
They weren’t duped by Trump, they knew exactly what they were getting: a moral degenerate who shares their racist, xenophobic, homophobic and misogynist views.
They realize that he’s probably never read a single page of the Bible, and attends church only on Christmas and Easter. Although if Trump knew that the Old Testament was chockful of incest, rape, murder, genocide and adultery, he might be tempted to crack it open every once in a while.
Evangelicals knew exactly what they were getting in Trump: a sociopath messiah for a heartless age who is on a mission from God to establish a Christian white nationalist regime.
Trump embraces policies that are in keeping with the white nationalist Republican Party, and he is the perfect messiah for white evangelicals, and the perfect presidential candidate for Republicans.
