“I don’t wear a bra anymore. I can’t wear a bra. I’m sorry I don’t care if my breasts reach my belly button. I’m not wearing a bra, it’s just too f***ing uncomfortable.”
Gillian Anderson
The X-Files actress uttered this declaration of independence in a video she posted on Instagram.
Anderson got plenty of support online for her decision to stop wearing a bra. In fact, during the pandemic many women worked from home and they opted for more casual attire: pants or sweatpants and a T-shirt sans a bra. After a year or so of freedom from the cumbersome attire, they don’t see a compelling reason to start wearing the torture device again.
Bras aren’t a utilitarian garment; they don’t serve much of a purpose. Only well-endowed women need the support that a brassiere offers. We may live in a society where women enjoy equal rights, but let’s face it women wear uncomfortable underwire and pushup bras to please men.
Anderson is 52 and if she goes braless her boobs won’t approach her nether regions, only when she hits 70 or 80 will she look like her knees are swollen when she skips wearing a bra.
I hope Anderson starts a trend and women ditch the bra, if they’re seeking to please men there’s nothing that turns on a man more than an attractive woman who wears a blouse without a bra.
