My Heart Skips a Beat Whenever Betty White Trends on Twitter

The atrocious words and unspeakable behavior of Donald Trump and his MAGA sycophants and acolytes like Representatives Lauren Boebert, Marjorie Taylor Greene and Paul Gosar, pillow maven Mike Lindell, and the Rev. Franklin Graham usually dominate the top Twitter trends.

Betty White trends every few weeks, and her wholesomeness, awesomeness, and intrinsic beauty is an antidote to the vile and venom that thrives on Twitter, and you’d think I’d be happy when I see the iconic queen of TV trending.

But my heart skips a beat every time I see her trending on social media, and that’s a very bad thing for someone afflicted with a serious heart condition.

The reason my heart palpitates when I see the legend trending on Twitter is because the first thing that comes to my mind is: OMG! Is Betty alright? I hope to God she didn’t die!

Betty White should be blocked from trending; my heart can’t take it! Or at least Twitter should automatically put a “the Queen is OK” caption whenever she starts trending. I hope Betty White doesn’t trend again until her 100th birthday on January 17, 2022. If I live long enough to celebrate Betty’s 100th birthday, by life will not have been in vain.

Happy 99th Birthday Betty White

Happy birthday Betty White. Legend. Icon. Diva. Ninety-nine years young and still ticking. White began her television career in 1939; her wit, charm and prodigious talent have helped America survive existential catastrophes from World War II to Vietnam to the year 2020, the Annus horribilis that we thought would never end.

For 80 years Betty has been a mainstay in the realm of entertainment, in the 50’s she hosted and produced her own daily talk/variety show, The Betty White Show, in the 60’s she was a ubiquitous presence on network game shows, in the 70’s she had us in stitches as the man-hungry Sue Ann Nivens on The Mary Tyler Show, in the 80’s and 90’s she was the comedic linchpin in The Golden Girls, in the 2000s she made dozens of appearances on the soap opera The Bold and Beautiful (is anyone more bold and beautiful than our queen?), and in the 2010’s she played the outrageous role of Elka Ostrovsky in Hot in Cleveland.

White never achieved the superstar status of a Lucille Ball, Marilyn Monroe, Madonna or Oprah Winfrey but after eight decades of being in the entertainment industry she’s now the brightest star in the galaxy.

And when the Grim Reaper finally catches up to her, like he does with all of us, her bright spirit will continue to shine in our hearts and in our minds.

Happy 99th Birthday Betty White!

Happy Birthday Betty White! America Loves You!

Whenever I see Betty White trending on Twitter my finger trembles as I click the link to find out why America`s sweetheart is trending. Whenever the nonagenarian icon is trending on social media, I fear it`s because the angels took her home.

Such was the case this morning when I see the screen and TV legend trending on Twitter; I breathed a huge sigh of relief when I found out that she`s in the news because she`s 96 years old today.

Those of you who`ve been reading my column for years are well aware of my cynical nature, and you might be surprised to learn that Betty White is my favorite celebrity, and not a hot mess like Miley Cyrus or a wise ass like Bill Maher.

Betty has the sweet face of a grandma who welcomes family and strangers to her home with a cookie and warm glass of milk, but who tells naughty jokes with a twinkle in her eye.

Betty has been warming our hearts for decades, from “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” to “Golden Girls” to “Hot in Cleveland,” while making us wet our drawers with her sarcastic humor.

A reporter recently asked Betty what the secret to her longevity was, and she answered: Vodka and hot dogs.

Here`s hoping that Betty downs at least four glasses of vodka every day along with a dozen hot dogs, because we want her to live 96 more years.

Happy Birthday Betty White! America Loves You!
